Signs it might be perimenopause

Your body has been sending signals for a while.

Perimenopause does not look like the menopause you might be imagining. It does not always come with hot flashes and missed periods. It starts quietly, often years earlier than most women expect, and it often gets blamed on everything except what it actually is.

If several of these have shown up in the past year or two, your hormones are worth a proper look.

01

Your sleep changed and nothing explains it

You fall asleep fine but wake at 3am with your mind running. Or you sleep 8 hours and wake exhausted. This is one of the earliest and most overlooked signs of hormonal shift.

02

Your mood feels less like you

Irritability, anxiety, or feeling emotionally flat in a way that does not match your life. Progesterone and estrogen both directly affect mood regulation. When they shift, you feel it.

03

Your cycles are changing even slightly

A few days shorter. A little heavier. Slightly different timing. These small shifts are often the first hormonal signals and they show up years before periods stop.

The gap in care

Most standard labs will completely miss perimenopause.

A basic blood panel checks TSH and a few blood counts. It does not tell you what your estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, or cortisol are doing. Which means your doctor can look at your results, say everything is normal, and send you home without any of the information that would actually explain what you are experiencing.

At Dela we run a full hormone panel because one number does not tell the whole story. Here is what we actually test compared to what most providers check:

Standard panel vs Dela panel

Estradiol Dela tests this
Progesterone Dela tests this
Testosterone Dela tests this
Cortisol Dela tests this
Full Thyroid TSH, T3, T4
DHEA Dela tests this
TSH only Standard panel
CBC Standard panel
Metabolic Standard panel

The credential that matters

Kallie Pothier, FNP, MSCP — one of the few certified menopause specialists in Utah County

The Menopause Society Certified Practitioner credential requires passing a comprehensive examination in evidence-based menopause and perimenopause care. Most providers in Lehi and surrounding cities have never pursued this training. Kallie did, because the women who come to Dela deserve better.

Your provider

Kallie built Dela for women who were told there was nothing wrong.

Kallie Pothier is a Family Nurse Practitioner and Menopause Society Certified Practitioner. She built Dela Women's Health because she saw too many women in their 30s and 40s being dismissed, when their hormones had never been tested.

Her approach is different because her training is different. Kallie runs the full panel. She reads your results in context of how you actually feel. She builds a plan around your labs, your symptoms, and your life, and she adjusts it as your body changes.

Women drive from Lehi, Saratoga Springs, Eagle Mountain, and across Utah County to see her. Telehealth is available for women throughout Utah who prefer to start from home.

Common questions

Questions from Lehi women

How far is Dela from Lehi?+
Dela Womens Health is located in Pleasant Grove, about 15 minutes from Lehi via I-15 heading south. We also offer telehealth appointments for women throughout Utah who prefer to start from home or who cannot make the drive.
I am in my late 30s. Could I really be in perimenopause?+
Yes. Perimenopause can start as early as your mid-30s and commonly begins in the late 30s and early 40s. The average age of menopause is 51, but the hormonal transition leading up to it can begin 10 to 15 years before that. Many women in Lehi are in perimenopause and have been told they are too young or that their labs are normal. Getting a proper hormone panel is the only way to know for certain.
What is the difference between perimenopause and menopause?+
Perimenopause is the transition phase when hormone levels begin to fluctuate and symptoms start to appear. It can last several years and occurs while you still have periods. Menopause is the point when you have gone 12 consecutive months without a period. Most of the symptoms women associate with menopause, including sleep disruption, mood changes, brain fog, and weight shifts, actually begin during perimenopause. Learn more in our perimenopause vs menopause guide at delawomenshealth.com.
My doctor said my labs are normal. Could something still be off?+
Yes, and this is one of the most common things we hear at Dela. Standard lab panels check only basic thyroid and blood counts. A proper hormone panel for perimenopause includes estradiol, progesterone, testosterone, DHEA, cortisol, and full thyroid markers. Without those, a doctor can truthfully say your labs are normal while missing the entire hormonal picture.
Is hormone therapy safe for perimenopause?+
Modern, evidence-based hormone therapy is safe for the vast majority of women and has been shown to significantly improve quality of life during perimenopause and menopause. As an MSCP certified provider, Kallie stays current on the latest research and will walk you through all your options so you can make an informed decision that feels right for you.
What makes Dela different from other providers in the Lehi area?+
Kallie Pothier is a Menopause Society Certified Practitioner, a credential that requires passing a comprehensive examination in evidence-based menopause and perimenopause care. Most general providers have not pursued this level of training. At Dela you also get longer visits, a full hormone panel rather than basic labs, and a care plan built around your actual results rather than a standard protocol.
